Itinerary

Welcome to an exceptionally splendid site on our planet… Litchfield National Park. Situated roughly an hour away by car from Darwin city, Litchfield National Park stands as a globally renowned attraction, offering you a chance to journey through some of the most breathtaking natural sceneries and delve into lush monsoon rainforests, magnificent waterfalls that cascade beautifully, and unspoiled natural swimming holes.

En route, we’ll make a halt at the Adelaide River, presenting you the opportunity to partake in the renowned Jumping Crocodile Cruise (this is an optional add-on) or to visit the Fogg Dam Conservation Centre, located on the ancestral grounds of the Limilngan-Wulna people (who actively oversee and care for this reserve). As one of the most extraordinary locations to witness the distinctive wildlife of the Top End, the centre serves as a sanctuary for various native bird species, turtles, water pythons, and estuarine crocodiles.

Our journey includes exploring astonishing ancient Magnetic Termite Mounds, among the most sizable in the Top End. We’ll also allocate time to unwind and bathe in some of Litchfield’s most captivating natural swimming holes, natural spas, and whirlpools at either Buley Rockholes or Wangi Falls.

Next, we embark towards one of the most magnificent roaring waterfalls, choosing between Florence Falls or Tolmer Falls, to appreciate the sheer splendour and grandeur etched into the steep rocky cliffs.

Feeling refreshed after a day filled with tranquillity and excitement in this tropical aquatic paradise, we return to Darwin.

What finer method exists to invigorate, renew, and explore the remarkable variety of the Northern Territory than by partaking in our one-day Litchfield National Park Tour?

These regions have been significant to the Koongurrukun, Marranuggu, Werat, and Warray Aboriginal communities for millennia. The varied landscape, boasting untouched rock pools, cascading waterfalls, and a sanctuary for indigenous birds and other Australian wildlife, offers a paradise for photographers!

On this day-long Litchfield excursion, we immerse ourselves in the park’s highlights, exploring famed spots of natural splendour, gaining insights into the historical terrain, and seizing numerous chances to indulge and frolic in some of the most spectacular aquatic pools in the territory!

The Adelaide River’s floodplains are a haven for hundreds of thousands of bird species from across the globe. Simultaneously, it’s also a place to observe Black Flying Foxes and even Bull Sharks in this crucial aquatic ecosystem. We embark on a boat journey into the waters to encounter the area’s most renowned inhabitants: the Saltwater Crocodiles!

This unforgettable encounter allows us to observe these dominant predators in their environment, and witnessing the crocodile use its powerful tail to launch itself from the water in a ‘jumping’ motion is an extraordinary sight not to be overlooked!

Our excursions through Litchfield National Park allow you to skip the cruise if you’ve already had this experience; in that case, you can accompany your guide to the Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve nearby (refer to details below).

The reserve managed by the Limilngan-Wulna People is a great place to observe wetlands and learn about the significance of the Adelaide River floodplains to native and migratory species. Visitors can join their guide for a scenic walk through this pristine habitat, with opportunities to spot rare birds, water pythons, and freshwater turtles. Crocodiles can also be seen in this wetland system.

The Tabletop Range’s sandstone plateau produces stunning tropical waterfalls, offering the opportunity to descend 160 steps to the refreshing swimming hole at Florence Falls or admire the grandeur of Tolmer Falls from the lookout above.

The monsoon rainforest creates a unique tropical environment. Visitors can enjoy a scenic walk and admire the breathtaking views of this lush natural wonderland.

Itineraries may be subject to change due to seasonal variations, and occasionally, certain areas in the parks may be closed or have restrictions on swimming. We prioritize safety and make necessary adjustments to ensure our guests have a fun experience during their Litchfield tours.

The Buley Rockholes, nestled in picturesque bushland, offer various levels for swimming and lounging in the gentle waters. The transparent and pristine waters present a spa-like ambience; you might even relish a massage from the more rapidly flowing cascades.

Alternatively, you can visit the famous plunge pool at the foot of Wangi Falls, an exquisite swimming locale encircled by breathtaking natural landscapes. It promises a revitalizing interlude as we delve deeper into the park.

The schedules for Darwin Litchfield tours might be adjusted due to seasonal changes, and there can be times when specific areas in the parks are inaccessible or swimming is not advised. We prioritize safety and adapt our planning to ensure our guests enjoy the most pleasurable and favourable experience during their excursions.

Humans aren’t the sole creatures devising innovative methods to remain calm! We pause to witness the captivating natural wonder of the Magnetic Termite Mounds.

Discover how these ingenious social insects build colossal ‘skyscraper-like’ abodes that loom above us, offering excellent chances for photography. Allocate time to stroll among these structures and uncover their construction’s hidden scientific principles.
