Itinerary
The welcome includes arrival and meet and greet
Upon arrival at the airport, transportation to your accommodation in Alice Springs is not included and should be booked independently. We will gather at 4.30 pm in the Olive Pink Botanic Garden, where you will meet your fellow group members and discuss the upcoming itinerary with your guide. Afterwards, return to your Alice Springs accommodation and rest early in preparation for the forthcoming journey.
If you arrive earlier in the day, you may want to explore the busy city centre of the Red Centre before heading out to the remote outback. Look at the Aboriginal artworks at the top art galleries in Central Australia. It is also an excellent opportunity to make sure you have all the necessary items for your Larapinta Trail.
Day 1 - Section 1: Alice Springs - Wallaby Gap
We start early and leave the suburbs for the wilderness of the West MacDonnell Ranges. These ranges are known for their natural wonders and traditional culture, considered the best in Australia. Our first walk is a 14km leg stretch starting from the outskirts of Alice Springs. We will see beautiful views, especially at Euro Ridge. We take our walk casually, allowing us to relax and appreciate the region while contemplating the next four days. Our Ground Support Vehicle will meet us at Wallaby Gap and take us to our remote camping location in the MacDonnell Ranges National Park. We can visit a natural waterhole for a refreshing swim if we have time. We can truly experience the region, which is significant to the Western Arrernte Aboriginal people. Before dinner, we can enjoy a Kungkas Can Cook tasting platter, which showcases bush foods and uses wild-harvested produce from the Central Desert Region and beyond.

Day 2 - Section 8: Serpentine Gorge - Serpentine Chalet Dam
Today, we will be exploring the western half of the Larapinta Trail, which is a 13.4km section that is recommended for experienced walkers who are physically fit. This trail offers breathtaking views of the West MacDonnell Ranges, including Haasts Bluff and Mt Zeil, the highest point in the Northern Territory. If there is enough time, we may also have the opportunity to cool off with a refreshing swim in one of the natural waterholes after a long day of walking.

Day 3 - Section 10: Ormiston Gorge - Glen Helen Gorge
Today, we will explore the low-lying regions near Ormiston Gorge. We will gradually make our way into the back reaches of the Finke River. This area holds great significance in traditional folklore. We will visit important sites such as ‘Yapulpa’, part of the Carpet Snake Dreaming legend, and the Emu and Kangaroo Man Dreaming. If we have enough time, we can take a refreshing swim in one of the stunning natural waterholes. We will relax at our beautiful permanent campsite and enjoy the breathtaking sunset tonight. As the night falls, the desert sky will light up with millions of stars, providing a unique and memorable accommodation experience.

- The hiking distance for Section 10 is 11km, with a grading of Grade 3, considered moderate difficulty.
Day 4 - Section 12: Climbing Sonder Mountain
We start the trek to Mount Sonder very early in the morning, around 3 am. It’s an 8km climb to reach the peak. Once there, the sunrise and the panoramic view will leave you speechless. It’s a truly unforgettable experience. Afterwards, we’ll have a cooked Aussie breakfast at camp. In the afternoon, you can relax at camp or visit Ormiston Gorge. In the evening, you can enjoy the beautiful remote campsite and gaze at the stars in the Milky Way.

Day 5 - Section 9/10: Walk from Ormiston Pound to Alice Springs
The Ormiston Pound Walk is considered one of the best walks on the Larapinta Trail. It offers stunning views of the Chewing Range and Mount Giles and is an inspiring location where Albert Namatjira found inspiration. After a picnic lunch at Ormiston Gorge, we will pack up and head back to civilization for hot showers and everyday life.
After taking a shower tonight, you can go to one of Alice’s Outback Restaurants (your guide will confirm the time and location). You can reflect on the past five days and engage in light conversation over a drink.

What you need to bring?
- 3-5L refillable water bladder for hiking
- Wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses & sunscreen
- Swimwear, beach towels & toiletries (wet wipes)
- Comfortable, sturdy hiking shoes (tread closed-toe shoes for walking & climbing)
- All-weather lightweight, quick-dry clothing (extreme conditions inc wind, heat, cold, day/night)
Thermal layers for extreme cold during the night, dusk and dawn - 15-20kg soft bag & approx. 5-8 kg small day pack
Head torch with spare batteries (essential for the Mt Sonder hike and around camp at night) - Additional snacks such as energy bars or similar (we provide dry fruit and nuts, fresh fruit, some muesli bars, lollies and some cakes)
- Reusable zip lock bag for snacks (we try to protect our beautiful environment wherever possible; please think sustainable!)

What's Included?
- The accommodation for this package includes a private and remote campsite on traditional land. The campsite is equipped with safari tents that have twin bedding. The campsite is set in a bush setting and includes portable toilets and pop-up showers. Please note that there is no electricity available.
- All necessary camping equipment is provided, including linen, pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, and essential swag.
- The package includes four breakfasts, five lunches, five dinners, and trek snacks.
- The tour provides fresh drinking water and a variety of hot and cold beverages. Alcoholic beverages are not included, but guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol, and cold storage will be provided. Please inform your guide during the meet and greet.
- A guided bushwalking tour is available, covering approximately 14km with varying difficulty levels (grades 2-6).
- Travel in an air-conditioned 4WD off-road mini-coach.
- The hotel offers pickup and drop-off services in Alice Springs.
- The fee for the walking trail is five days, which includes traditional owners and camping fees.
- The driver-guide is professionally trained and accredited, serving as an onboard host in the outback.
- The remote first aid kit includes an extensive range of supplies, a satellite phone and an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB).
Exclusions
- Meals not specified in the itinerary are not included, and it is suggested that those with special dietary needs bring their snacks as options are limited in the outback.
- The Alice Springs Hotel is scheduled for Day 5 of the itinerary.
- On Day 5, please arrange your transportation to the farewell dinner.
- Hotel transfers are available to and from a designated pickup location as part of the tour itinerary.

- Sleeping bags can be rented from us onboard for AUD 40, which includes cleaning costs. Guests are also welcome to bring their own.
